There have been no standard specifications set for quality assurance and the
pricing policy as fas ar henna and its products are concerned. It is
however, lined by the buyers depending on the in-house management and local
forces regulating the market.
Some of the requisites are still maintained by exporters the world over,
some of which include:
- Content of moisture (7% to 10%)
- Minimum amount of extraneous matter
- Content of bixin
- Pigment content which usually comprises tannin, responsible for
giving henna its maroon color
- Pigment strength
- Color tone (Black, red or neutral)

Color quality measures are made by the purchasers on a qualitative
basis wich basically involves a hair or a wool dyeing test. The purchases of
seed are usually made on a spot basis and there is no change in the pricing
is differences between sample and consignment values for bixin content
prevail.
